CollegeBound Saver Partnership Expands to Jumpstart Education Savings for Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI Mentees

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBSRI) is proud to announce an expanded partnership with CollegeBound Saver, offering a powerful new incentive to inspire academic success and long-term planning among youth. Every child aged 7–14 who is matched with a Mentor through BBBSRI will now receive a $100 contribution to their 529 education savings plan prior to going to high school, thanks to support from CollegeBound Saver.

This initiative builds on the partnership that began in September 2024, when CollegeBound Saver awarded two Mentees $529 during a ceremony at the Rhode Island State House in honor of Big Brothers Big Sisters Month. Today, that momentum continues with a new commitment to invest in every eligible Mentee’s future.

“The cost of higher education has increased exponentially over the past several decades. As Treasurer, I want to ensure that Rhode Island children from every income level and zip code can aspire to, plan for, and succeed in postsecondary education,” said General Treasurer James A. Diossa. “Big Brothers Big Sisters' mentorship has created a positive impact in the lives of children all across Rhode Island, and I am looking forward to continuing to support their work."

“Mentorship is about believing in a young person’s potential, and this partnership is a tangible way to show that belief,” said Kaleigh Perkins, Chief Operating Officer of BBBSRI. “Thanks to CollegeBound Saver, our Mentees now have both a Mentor to guide them and a savings plan to help them dream even bigger.”

CollegeBound will not only contribute the initial $100 but also assist families with opening their accounts, removing barriers, and making college and career training more accessible.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters to support Rhode Island youth from an early age,” said Jennifer McElroy, CollegeBound Saver Program Representative. “By starting their college savings journey now, we hope to spark conversations about higher education and career opportunities that can shape their futures.”
