Collecting Cleaning Supplies and Toiletry Items to Support Two Local Nonprofits
Throughout the month of August, People's Credit Union hosted an Essentials Drive across all its branches, collecting hundreds of donations ranging from cleaning supplies, housewares, and personal toiletry items to benefit two area nonprofits. People's East Bay branches collected items for the East Bay Community Action Program; donations received at the West Bay branches will support the Welcome House of South County. Imani Walters from the Starfish Housing project provided a list of helpful items to collect.
"On September 18th, we will be holding our second annual Day of Purpose, where our employees will be volunteering with community organizations that are working to make a meaningful difference for those facing housing insecurity and homelessness," said Courtney Hunter, Head of Community Development at People's Credit Union. "Our Essentials Drive was another way to support our nonprofit partners and allowed our members and the community to participate in a collective effort."
In total, the Essentials Drive collected:
- 180 Sponges
- 170 Rolls of paper towels and toilet paper
- 150 Toiletry Items (Toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products.
- 120 Cutlery Sets and Kitchen Utensils
- 36 Bottles of All-purpose Cleaner
- 30 Bottles of Dish Soap
- 20 Bath Towels
- 12 Sheet Sets
